Another opinion shootoff
This one might generate some hatemail, but so be it. Recently, my home publication, the Eastern Echo has come under fire for using a noose for a background on a news quiz about an incident at Columbia University. The noose has been used by many cultures as a method of execution, not just the Civil War era south. This is sad that such a tying of a rope has become a symbol like the swastika or the goose step, in bringing back unpleasant memories for a society. Could the page designers shown a little more discretion in their choice? yes. However, the whole newspaper should not be attacked because of one mistake.

The Eastern Echo makes a lot of questionable judgements about its content. It's features, especially ones involving "fashion" and "trends" are frankly embarrassing and do not reflect the interests of most students, unless they're aimed mainly at the 18-19 year old crowd. It always covers sports but its coverage of the arts and political happenings on campus are quite slim. Also, it never publishes letters to the editor.
